New light house
The New Lighthouse of Pondicherry, built in 1979, stands tall along the city’s scenic coastline near Goubert Avenue. It serves both as a functional maritime beacon and a popular tourist attraction offering panoramic views of the Bay of Bengal.
Unlike the older colonial lighthouse, this modern cylindrical tower is equipped with advanced lighting systems and stands at a height of 29 meters. Its black-and-white checkered exterior is a striking sight against the blue sea and sky.
Visitors can climb to the top via a spiral staircase and enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline, Promenade Beach, French War Memorial, and White Town. It’s especially popular during sunset hours for photography and sightseeing.
